Independent Book Reading

Good news! You can read as many books as you want this year. Your goal should be to read as much as you can each trimester. Grades will be earned at midterm time ---then again at the end of each trimester.

Here is what you will do:

1. Select a book to read.
2. Write the title, author, pages, and date on your log.
3. Get it approved by your teacher. Your teacher will initial your log if it is ok.
4. Read the book. (about 20 pages a school night will get you an A+!)
5. Fill out the appropriate genre form for your book.
6. Schedule a conference with your teacher to discuss your reading. Bring the book, your log, and the form to the conference.
7. Put the signed form in the class binder.
8. Start all over!

Grading: (per 6 week periods)

You can pick how many books you read and how long each is. You may decide to read one long book or three short books…as long as you complete the books and pages for the grade you aim for during the 6 week time period! If you are paying attention, that means if you want to earn an A+ both times during the trimester you will actually read 1200 pages!

A 600-540 pages
B 539- 480 pages
C 479-420 pages
D 419-360 pages

Extra Credit:

800 pages= 3 points
1000 pages=5 points
1200 pages= 10 points (max !)

Thursday, April 21st
Final turn in date to be announced

Remember—no book sheets will be accepted LATE. You have weeks to complete these pages.

Repeat errors will result in grade/point reduction.
